Battlefield Acupuncture is an alternative pain management technique that involves the insertion of tiny specialized "ASP" needles (shown above) into specific points on the outer ear. It was developed by Dr. Richard Niemtzow, a U.S. Air Force physician to help military personnel manage pain in a combat environment where traditional medical resources might be limited. These days, this technique is used to treat acute and chronic pain.

The technique is based on principles of traditional acupuncture and modern neuroscience. It is designed for rapid application and effectiveness in acute pain situations. The outer ear has numerous acupuncture points that are believed to correspond to different areas of the body. By stimulating points selected in this protocol, we can reduce pain and promote healing.

Battlefield acupuncture is relatively quick and can be performed in various settings, making it a practical option for pain relief in both military and civilian contexts.
